Current Work

Festive Foliage:

During 2007, I have been investigating those plants which we associate with Christmas festivities and other celebrations. Many of these plants have a fascinating history behind them, featuring in stories, songs and sayings. Some have been used for medicinal and ceremonial purposes since the time of the Ancient Greeks and Romans. To commemorate these plants, I have created a series of miniature sculptures, paintings and greetings cards featuring

  • Holly (Ilex aquifolium)
  • Ivy (Hedera helix)
  • Mistletoe (Viscum album)
  • Christmas Rose (Helleborus niger)
  • Poinsetta (Euphorbium pulcherrima)
  • Norway Spruce (Picea abies)
  • Oak (Quercus robur)

The sculptures (3cm x 3cm) are ideal for hanging as a Christmas tree decoration or as a gift. In 2008 I plan to take a closer look at the way plants are constructed, both from the naked eye and under a microscope, as a starting point for my work.

Rare Species:

I have created a series of paintings to illustrate rare plants which grow on the Sussex coast, and which are protected as endangered species. Look at the Public Art section of the Galleries under Wellend Villas.

The Yellow House series: A body of work featuring houses and dwellings, especially The Yellow House, which includes landscapes featuring the seaside, mountains and farms. Created for fun, the images are designed to appeal to adults and children alike. The Yellow House range includes paintings and greetings cards and miniature sculptures (3cm x 3cm). Paintings and

Greetings Cards: Look in the Galleries under Paintings for examples.Miniature Sculptures: Look in the Galleries under Ceramics for examples.Personalised Small Sculptural Reliefs:My maiden name means Oak in Gaelic so I created a set of miniature sculptures for members of my family. If you would like me to create a miniature sculpture to commemorate a special occasion or as a gift for someone special, contact me, Jane Lim, for details.
