Jane Lim is based in the North-West of England and gained a BA (Hons) Degree in Visual Arts in 2005 and an MA in Public Art at the University of Bolton in 2007.
Equally at home with painting and drawing, ceramics and sculpture, her flexible approach enables her to select the most appropriate medium for each art project undertaken. Where public art is concerned, Jane's view is that the artist should respond to the unique characteristics of the particular site and the community around it, and that no two sites are exactly the same. Images of recent public art projects can be seen on the website.
Since 2002, Jane's work has explored diverse issues such as politics (George and Tony), history (The End of the Shift), social psychology (Gender, Bosnia Series, Trio) issues of disability and scientific principles (Sound Wave).
From 2007, the Botanical theme, which features in both the Adelaide House public art project and the Flora series for Hoddlesden Millennium Green, will be explored in more depth. The paintings and sculptures will often feature the origins of plants, their medicinal uses and place in various cultures.
Jane is currently investigating ways in which awareness of environmental and conservation issues can be promoted through art, particularly where rare plants and wildlife are under threat.
A member of the neo-artists group and Bolton Community Artists Membership, she exhibits regularly in addition to undertaking public art projects. Jane's experience in working with children and people of all age groups has proved invaluable in running workshops and in community consultation.
